The Exception to The Rule by Christina Lauren -Book Review

By Deborah October 30, 2024

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Book 1 of 6 The Improbable Meet-Cute collection

I loved The Exception To The Rule by Christina Lauren. It was so cute and bubbly. I felt so good after reading this. I ended up reading the entire The Improbable Meet-Cute collection, which features romantic stories about finding love unexpectedly just to feel the same way again but none of the other stories came close.

The only other book that was somewhat enjoyable was Rosie and the Dreamboat By Sally Thorne, but The Exception to The Rule truly stands out.

The Exception to The Rule Blurb

On February 14, an accidental email to a stranger opens the door to an unexpected relationship in a captivating short story by the New York Times bestselling authors of The Unhoneymooners.

One typo, and a boy and girl connect by chance. Wishing each other a happy Valentine’s Day isn’t the end. In fact, it becomes a friendly annual tradition—with rules: no pics, no real names, nothing too personal. As years pass, the rules for their email “dates” are breaking, and they’re sharing more than they imagined—including the urge to ask…what if we actually met?

Christina Lauren’s The Exception to the Rule is part of The Improbable Meet-Cute, irresistibly romantic stories about finding love when and where you least expect it. They can be read or listened to in one sitting. Let’s make a date of it.

The Exception to The Rule Review

Apparently the first half of the novella is told entirely via emails, but don’t let that discourage you if you’re not a fan of this format. The emails are so cute and worth your time.

The premise of the series/book is a meet-cute. The Exception to the Rule is a short story by Christina Lauren about an unexpected relationship that begins with an accidental email to a stranger.

The meet cute is more impactful and interesting because they don’t fall for each other after just meeting just once. They exchange emails over a couple of years every year on Valentine’s Day the emails are crafted so well that they capture each character’s personality and make the connection feel real and engaging.

The romance unfolds gradually over several years, making it all the more genuine and relatable as they move from high school to college students.

For anyone looking for a quick, feel-good read, The Exception To The Rule is perfect. It is like a ray of sunshine and butterflies that offers a delightful escape that can be enjoyed in one sitting.
