Cassandra Clare Shadowhunter Books: Recommended Reading Orders

Shadowhunter

You’ve probably picked up a shadowhunter book to finally read or you have started the series already and don’t know how to start, where to start from, or how to continue.

Then you are in the right place.

There are many books in the shadowhunter series and various ways to read them.

I started reading the book in 2016 so I have just read in publication order and waited for the next book to be released. However, there are various ways to read them they include:

Below I have listed the ways you can read them based on four different ways.

Publication order

You can read the Cassandra Clare books in order of how they were published. This is the order I read the series in. I read them as they were released. This is also a good way to read the series. The only issue is are you willing to stop reading the mortal instruments to pick up clockwork angel and go back to the mortal instruments series?

Honestly whatever way you read the books is okay. I read it this way because it was what I had access to at the moment and I still read in publication order as other books are being released.

Shadowhunter: Publication

Series

Another way is to read the Cassandra Clare shadowhunter books in order of series so you read and complete a series before moving to the next one. I have listed the series in order of publication below.

Shadowhunter : Series

Chronologically

You can also read the Shadowhunter books in order of how they occur chronologically. Click the link below to visit the official timeline.

Official Timeline
Shadowhunter : Timeline

Preference

Finally, another way you can read the shadowhunter books is in the order recommended by Cassandra Clare herself.

Shadowhunter Cassandra clare

Whatever way you read the books it is okay as long as you manage to avoid the spoilers and have a good time reading it. These books are one of the best books I have read.

It is a total journey, and if you look beyond all its imperfections you’ll have a good time.

The books have amazing characters. And maybe you’ll find yourself in one or more of these characters.

Share your recomended order in the comments or the order which you have been reading it in the comments.

It Starts With Us By Colleen Hoover Book Review.
⭐⭐
I must admit that it was a pleasure to return to Lilly and Atla’s story.

I really loved the story and I like that it made me smile and sad at the same time just like the first book (It Ends With Us) it is not a sad book.

However, it’ll shelve this on my just because you can doesn’t mean you should pile.

The plot really didn’t have the impact that It Ends With Us had. I think It Ends With Us ended perfectly well.

Nevertheless, it was eye-opening to see the story of the aftermath of abuse and see the horrible scars it leaves physically and emotionally affecting others around them too.

It Starts with Us depicts the aftereffects of abuse in all forms. The sequel demonstrates how realistic, and terrible, and how even a happily ever after is tainted by the anguish and reminder of abuse.

It Starts With Us starts right where It Ends With Us ends. It’s the story of Lily and Atlas after she ended it with Ryle. Switching between the perspectives of Lily and Atlas, It Starts with Us picks up right where It Ends with Us stops.

Revealing more about Atlas’s past and following Lily as she embraces a second chance at true love while navigating a jealous ex-husband.

Ogadinma: (Everything Will Be All Right).
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The story was very engaging and relatable from the first page to the last.

Ogadinma tells the tale of what women go through in a world that’s been designed for men. It's painfully true, intriguing and very insightful. It shows the experience of women at the hands of men who want to control them until the women find it too much to bear.

Please check for trigger warnings- Some include- Domestic violence, Sexual assault, Emotional abuse, Rape, and Abortion.

One thing I didn’t enjoy was the suffering of women. It is well depicted here which had me all in my feelings. I kept on sighing at some point.
It was so heartbreaking and sad to read the things she had to go through. But one thing I kept on telling myself was that Ogadinma- Everything will be alright so I kept on reading.

Nothing about Ogadinma’s story is new, it’s the stories we hear day to day, It’s things we go through as women or experience other women go through.

Ukamaka Olisakwe is such a gifted and beautiful story writer. She painted such vivid images which really engaged me as a reader and once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down until I was done.
She did a good job telling us everything will be alright at the end by showing there was hope and much more opportunities for her which I really loved.

Also, understand that the choices she made were a result of choices and options available to her at that time.
Thanks, @the_swapng for my copy.

Blood Scion- Deborah Falaye ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bloo Blood Scion- Deborah Falaye
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Blood Scion gave me so much joy. I was so proud as a Nigerian to see Yoruba representation of the gods, names, incantations and anecdotes.

Sloane is the main character and she’s a scion who can incinerate her enemies and has spent her whole life hiding this. She’s a ray of hope in the darkness depicted in this book.
Her character was written so well and we could see the thought process beneath every action she took. You also have to remember that She is really young as well as her other companions who she found and became friends and acquaintances with.

I enjoyed the anecdotes and how Yoruba mythology and gods were intricately woven into the story. This book is so creatively written that you’d never know this was a debut novel if you didn’t know beforehand.

It was really a compelling plot with intriguing characters. The characters were relatable and each played their part well. Even those we never meet directly.

I thought it’d be heavy on some stuff but not so much. Pretty much similar to most content we consume on the news already but still note these trigger warnings before going in.

The best part was the audiobook, I listened to the audiobook and it was awesome. The pronunciations, incantations, Yoruba mannerisms, and pacings were so good. I applaud the narrator. That last chapter really made me proud and I just had to go back to listen to the incantations again.

The book is fast-paced which I appreciated once it started it didn’t stop.

Apart from the fact that it was predictable which I think Is just me, this is a 5-star book. I really hope it doesn’t suffer from second book syndrome, we get more of the gods and scions in action.

It ends on a cliff hanger but it’s a good ending so you don’t have to suffer the whole wait for book 2, it’s more if what comes next?
Also more incantations, please.

Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren is a seco Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren is a second chance romance told in a present and past perspective by Macy the main narrator. I really loved the innocence of young love and the intentionality of adult love.

Love and other words is a beautifully crafted story of friendship and first love, of suffering loss and finding your soulmate.

Macy’s and Eliot’s story is one I love. I took my time to read it and just enjoy the story. I didn’t speed through it in 5 hours like other books I have been reading. I just wanted to appreciate the story and the book and I really did.

It was so beautifully written. This is a book that I really connected with and kind of related to. They were so good together and it makes you wonder what happened to them that made 11 years fly by with no contact. And that makes you keep turning the pages because you really need to find out to they can talk it through and resolve their issues.

House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City 2) by Sarah House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City 2)
by Sarah J. Maas
4.5 stars
Let me just start by saying 2 years ago I’d have finished this book in 2 or 3 days. But it took me over 2 weeks to finish it and I enjoyed every moment. House of Sky and Breath follows the same formula as House of Earth and Blod - Crescent City 2 so it was quite easy to get into and felt familiar reading. Goes without saying that Sarah J Mass is an amazing writer and the book is an amazing book. House of Sky and Breath starts with Bryce and the fallen angel, Hunt, trying to get back to normal after (temporarily) saving the world.

Super detailed and elaborate review on my blog.

Non-Spoiler Review
The House of Sky and Breath book was as big as the House of Earth and Blood. Despite being a second book still has a lot of information dumping and world-building. It also had an ensemble cast.
The major characters all had POVs and were quite as diverse as book one. I wish we had gotten more from some characters and less from other characters.

Every other character kinda took a back seat here. I wish we got more of Fury and Juniper. Maybe not Juniper but probably Fury.

To be honest Sarah J mass is a good writer which made it easy to read this chunky book, however just like book one it could have been a few pages shorter. It could have been 500 pages and still good. Some POVs were quite unnecessary and towards the middle and end, I started to get frustrated with the book.

Also, another character that was focused on in this book was Danika. Danika is dead but she still lives on in their lives. Apparently, a lot of things she has done in the past come to play here I thought we already put Danika to rest in book one but apparently not.

However it was a good book just a little too big in my opinion and if you are a big Sarah J Mass fan, There’s that big surprise at the end of the book.

No review here. I have a detailed one on my blog. No review here. I have a detailed one on my blog.
I’m just here to lament at how I could finish a book this big in 2-3 days just 2 years ago but now it’s taking over a week to finish a big one or even a fairly big book.
Same with binge watching series.
Is it just me?

Bye bye romance, Hello Fantasy February. I diverte Bye bye romance, Hello Fantasy February. I diverted a bit last year with all that was going on, I just wanted simpler things and a distraction from the hardship of life, so I read a lot of romance.
Well this year I’m going back to my favorite genre- Fantasy.
Just finished reading A Curse So Dark And Lovely. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s a beauty and the beast retelling, dragged a bit in some places, was quite predictable but I enjoyed it.
I loved the ending but I fear book 2 won’t live up to expectations book one left.
I’ll write a proper review on the blog later.
