Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Chief Daddy 2: Going For Broke is a big example of that. This fully star-studded ensemble movie ended up being one that people did not need nor did they enjoy based on the negative reviews.
Chief Daddy 2 Plot:
The Beecroft family are ready to spend all of Chief Daddy’s inheritance, but not if the CEO of his company one of his oldest daughters Laila has anything to do with it.
The movie had a great video quality, various locations including Dubai and London, our favourite actors and a somewhat nice wardrobe. But these still didn’t make up for the poor storyline, mediocre acting, confusing script and unnecessary plot lines.
The release definitely sparked a conversation among Nigerians after its release.
Most of the reviews were not positive as Nigerians raged about the release of the movie.
One Twitter user commented that it was a prank and the real one would be released soon.
Another commented that Falz carried the whole show on his back.
As funny as it sounds I quite agree with this take, because while Falz did have the major screen time he did quite well delivering the script and unrealistic character Famzy. However, he probably won’t be getting an AMVCA with this except the Nigeria factor plays in it ( If you know what I mean).
I enjoyed his relationship with Sandra (Beverly Osu) I really did, a lot. Being a musician’s girlfriend is hard work especially if he is an upcoming musician.
I also share the same sentiments with this user.
I watched this with my siblings on New Year and we just allowed ourselves to enjoy it. It felt like an unending skit. But it was a good way to bring the family together to enjoy something even though it was harder than usual to enjoy this.
But what was interesting is how Chief Daddy 2 brought up a discussion among writers in the Nollywood industry.
Writer Dami Elebe, a brilliant scriptwriter who has written for shows like The Men’s Club and Skinny Girl In Transit revealed that
Sometimes… The script and story isn’t the problem.
Sometimes the person that wrote the script is as surprised as you are on release date.
I quite agree with this to be very honest. And I’m glad the Chief Daddy 2 release Is bringing up a wider discussion.
Another writer revealed that once. the casting and everything had been set up, and 3 weeks to shoot date she was consulted for a script. 3 weeks to shoot date.
It explains the quality of some of the movies we see. I hope everyone involved in these movies is reading all the reviews and comments. and taking note of what not to do in the next movie and subsequent ones.
So how was your experience watching The Chief Daddy 2 – Going For Broke on Netflix?
