He He this title is definitely fitting. This was definitely an ugly love.
I rolled my eyes so much reading this. Ah, Miles was a handful.
Before I start I am putting my aunt cap on and giving a little bit of advice.
We are definitely defined by our experiences and the things we go through. I am a firm believer in living through those experiences and taking from them what we can. I honestly do not believe we should allow it to be the full makeup of our personality. It is fine to grieve and live through it. But making that experience or a series of experiences determines your life, behaviour, and the rest of your life…… No, don’t do that.
We all go through things and some more than others, it is agreed that not everyone comes out the same but letting them decide how you would live the rest of your life??? No.
We, humans, are naturally a sucker for self-loathing and punishment so we hold onto that one situation and decide we do not deserve happiness. The past hurts but that’s the past, learn to forgive, yourself included, learn to love, learn to smile and live each day new smile, laugh and have a good day. You deserve the best you deserve to love and be loved, and experience the best life has to offer, it is only one life we get after all.
Ugly Love Book Blurb
When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realise they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realise almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.
Ugly Love Book review
Now to the review. This is going to be a long one because there is a lot to unpack.
The Characters.
There’s a way Collen writes her characters and it’s beginning to become a worry. I enjoyed not liking the characters because it was interesting not to like characters, but still want to read about them and their stories. However, I have read over 5 books so far and one thing that is common in most of the books except It Ends With Us, is the female characters come off as weak. They seem to have no drive for ambition and the things they like. They make the wrong decisions even when it is screaming right at them and they tend to need the guys in their lives, they need a guy to save them or something like that. See I am a lady and I wouldn’t make most of the decisions that these ladies make.
We ladies think, we do. We just do not do things because we should. We rule the world even if we own little seats of power. So why is Collen Hover writing us as such weak characters who make wrong decisions and have a little drive for ambition.
I think this might be as a result of her exposure and lifestyle I am probably wrong. I will still be reading more books and I hope to see the female characters written better, without trauma, anxiety and selling themselves short. Please.
In Ugly Love, Tate is said to be pursuing her master’s degree and is also a nurse, which wasn’t even focused on. There wasn’t any success parameter, she studied but that was it. We didn’t get to read about her work in saving lives or acing her exams. However, we are celebrating Mile’s achievement at 24 and her brother and all the other male pilots are successful.
The Story
Ugly Love was a book about love, heartbreak, loss and forgiveness most especially forgiving yourself.
I loved the writing style of showing Miles’ past while we read about his present. This book is quite interesting. The thing about Collen is I have come to realise I do not have to like the characters to like a book. I mean I barely like 50% of the characters. Miles was a lot and to be honest he put Tate through a lot of unnecessary stress. (Struggling to write this spoiler-free) I read this in 5 hours it was quite a page-turner and Miles Miles wow.
See I liked this book, but I hated it. Tate deserved better and Miles was just being manipulative. His past honestly wasn’t an excuse for the stuff he put Tate through. But you know what Tate is a grown-up and was fully aware of her actions.
Don’t try to be the girl he changes for. It is not worth it in real life. (This review is beginning to feel like a long rant lol)
If you look past the gaslighting this was a pretty decent book and quite interesting, Not one of my favourites but definitely a memorable book.
