I think I preferred this book a little better than Chain of Gold but I really can’t tell which is better, I guess a story gets better as it progresses but for this, I won’t say so. It was interesting but didn’t have as many captivating qualities as the other shadowhunter books, what I can say is that it was well-written which made it easy to read. I kept on reading hoping it would get better and juicer but even the end was a little bit flat and the plot twists? I wasn’t flabbergasted at the reveals tbh I was just like okay what next?
Tbh the only thing that had me going was the love triangles or the love pentagrams as I have been calling them and even with so many triangles and all, there wasn’t so much satisfaction from it. I needed the Juicy drama, heartbreaks and all of that but What we got was still okay. I hope there are more definitions and conclusions to these love triangles in the 3rd book.
It isn’t my favourite book or the best shadowhunter book in my opinion however, it is well written and has wonderful characters, I love all of them even the ones we’re supposed to not like, I also like how this is connected to the other shadow hunter books. You can see how this prompted the chain reaction of the plot and activities of Lord of Shadows.
You also get a back story into the Shadow Hunters, it is diverse and issues like addiction, grief and sexuality are addressed. I also enjoyed the fashion and loved seeing Magnus.
