(From Blood and Ash #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This is the sequel to From Blood and Ash. A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire is so much bigger and even so much better than its predecessor! So many plot twists and reveals and still more to reveal in the third book.
Before I start this review I’ll admit that this book was on almost every list on Booktok and Bookstagram. Booktube included so I picked it up. Book one didn’t really do it for me if I must admit but it was a good introduction to the book and the world.
The characters seemed bland and didn’t do it much for me. This is my personal opinion as I still went on to read book two and let me admit that I loved it. I stayed up two nights reading it despite my busy schedule and having to wake up early the next mornings.
I think the major issue for me was that I struggled to relate with Poppy but that was just it. The book was well written, easy to read, the book flow was amazing, the world building awesome, the characters were also interesting and I loved how they interacted with each other. It felt so believable.
My favorite character was Keiran. By the way I loved his sassiness and how he interacted with people around him he was easily loveable. Wish he had been introduced earlier in the book!.
One question I have is why so many secrets they had when they were bound to eventually come out. I mean the characters interacted a lot and had a lot of time to speak so the keeping of secrets that were bound to be revealed sooner or later is what tripped me a bit so someone hints at something and because we are reading from poppy’s view, she doesn’t know anything and we do not know anything too and we have to wait till the party involved decided they are ready to talk or someone spills the secer.
It worked to keep me turning the pages so that’s it but I wish we knew things too. We are as clueless as Poppy and trust me she doesnt know a lot of what is going on.
Also, there’s still a lot we do not know yet and a lot that has been revealed in bits we still have a lot to learn so i’m looking forward to the next book but this book was a really nice read, better that the first book and answered a lot more questions.
SPOILER: What was with them having sex in the middle of a battle field I read this chapter at night and I was screaming.
Plus y’all that read this book because of the smut and all, clap for yourself. This is how I am looking at you.
You can see how I waited for the end of the review to mention it. I don’t really care for smut and sexual tension in books because I’m more interested in the story, growth and character dynamic so I really couldn’t care much about it in this book even though the smut was written into key activities in the book. So yeah smut or not this was a great read.
